  • Lightsource bp has added 10th market to the list of countries where it is active with Germany
  • It plans to install between 300 MW to 400 MW of new capacity to the market annually till 2030
  • Its strategy is to explore various greenfield, co-development and acquisition opportunities and work with municipalities, landowners and energy companies

One of Europe’s leading solar PV developers, Lightsource bp has forayed into the German solar market with an annual target to install between 300 MW to 400 MW new solar capacity annually by 2030, and says it is building its development pipeline to multi-GW scale.

Germany was the largest market for solar PV capacity in the European Union (EU) in 2022, having installed 7.2 GW capacity. Going forward, the government targets to deploy 9 GW in 2023, eventually aiming for 22 GW annually from 2026 to achieve its cumulative target of 215 GW by 2030 under its PV Strategy (see Germany Invites Public Consultation For PV Strategy).

In Germany, the British developer sees itself working with municipalities, landowners and energy companies. It will explore various greenfield, co-development and acquisition opportunities in this market.

“Our country has set itself very ambitious goals and is on the way back to becoming a global pioneer. Approval procedures are still too complex and lengthy. However, as a company, we can handle complexity and we are not deterred by complicated approval processes,” said Head of Business Development at Lightsource bp in Germany, Stephan Jeznita.

Lightsource has developed 8.8 GW solar energy capacity to date and aims to grow to 25 GW by 2025. In May 2022, it entered the solar markets of Taiwan and France and the entry into Germany makes it the 10th nation it has expanded to globally (see Lightsource BP Expands To East Asian Market).
