British solar power projects developer Lightsource bp has contracted Siemens to supply over 850 MW inverter stations to support the company's multiple utility scale solar PV projects across the US, with an option to add 200 MW more.
Siemens plans to supply its central inverter stations rated at 4.3 MW to 4.7 MW for bulk of these projects that Lightsource is bringing up in the Midwest and Southeast regions. It includes gas-insulated switchgear, step-up transformers and auxiliary power stations.
The German inverter supplier will provide commissioning and installation support on the projects through its factory-certified service personnel. It is expected to deliver the products over the course of next 2 years under the volume frame agreement (VFA) signed.
Additionally, outside of the VFA, Siemens is also to deliver more than 185 MW central inverters to Lightsource bp throughout the remainder of 2023.
"This procurement deal is a testimony to Lightsource bp's exponential growth in the United States, and our confidence in Siemens' technology. To reach our worldwide goal of delivering 25 GW of developed solar by 2025, we continue to strategically invest in the products that will support our success," said Lightsource bp's Chief Procurement Officer Rachael Legg.
Earlier this year, the solar developer placed an order for 4.0 GW DC First Solar modules to be delivered between 2026 and 2028 (see It's Raining Deals For American Solar Module Maker).
Lightsource bp is currently operating or constructing 3.2 GW projects in the US, but the volume is to grow as its parent bp plc expands its renewables pipeline in the country (see Lightsource BP To Develop 9 GW Solar Acquired By BP).
