Key Takeaways
  • LONGi has ventured into the energy storage space, completing its solar-storage-hydrogen value chain

  • It is collaborating with PotisEdge with a view to adding established safety performance and technical support for ESS products

  • The company has also launched its 1st European innovation center, which aims to strengthen localized services and support for solar and storage

LONGi, one of the world’s largest solar manufacturers, has expanded into the global energy storage market with the launch of its Energy Storage One-Stop Solution. The company says the move reflects its shift from a pure PV leader to a fully integrated provider of solar, storage, and hydrogen energy solutions.

Already an established tier I solar PV cell, module, and wafer manufacturer, LONGi is also present in the hydrogen space, producing large-scale hydrogen production equipment by alkaline water electrolysis. Its expansion into the energy storage space fully forms what it terms a closed loop across the Solar-Storage-Hydrogen value chain, also the ‘stability triangle’.

Explaining the company’s strategy, LONGi Vice President Dennis She said, “Solar is the creator of clean energy, energy storage is the stabilizer of the power system, and hydrogen is the regulator that balances it all. The synergy of these three will build a truly widespread, highly resilient, and affordable zero-carbon energy system.”

She noted that the energy storage sector is now at a stage similar to the early phase of solar, marked by rapid, confidence-driven growth alongside ‘disorderly competition’. He added that the focus of competition is shifting from simply possessing technology to demonstrating reliable performance.

LONGi’s focus, according to She, will be on ultimate safety for its energy storage products, for which it has roped in energy storage system (ESS) manufacturer PotisEdge of Italy. Touting that PotisEdge has a safety record of zero thermal runaway incidents across more than 12 GWh of cumulative energy storage and power batteries over the past decade, LONGi said this collaboration will provide solid technical support for its ESS business.

LONGi recently announced plans to acquire a 62% stake in PotisEdge (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Additionally, LONGi has also established its 1st Solar-Storage Technology Innovation Center (Center of Excellence, CoE) in Europe. It will offer project consulting, technical training, O&M support, and spare parts services for local solar-storage projects.

It plans to start rolling out its ESS in major markets of the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain. “Europe's urgent need for energy transition and its mature market mechanisms provide an ideal platform for practicing integrated 'Solar-Storage-Hydrogen' solutions,” stated She during the center’s launch.

Dante Zhang, LONGi’s Product Marketing Manager, will join the 4-day annual flagship event of TaiyangNews High-Efficiency Solar Technologies 2025 Conference to talk about back contact technology. The virtual event is scheduled for December 3-4 and December 9-10. Registrations are free and can be done here
