Ireland headquartered renewable energy company Mainstream Renewable Power has launched a new hybrid renewables platform in Chile with more than 1 GW capacity, comprising 3 wind and 3 solar power projects.

Nazca Renovables will have the 6 projects divided into 3 portfolios. The 1st portfolio will be called Humboldt and will supply 255 MW of clean energy through Tata Inti Solar Farm and Entre Rios Wind Farm, both of which are expected to enter construction in mid-2022. For this portfolio, the company said it has recently signed a long term bilateral private power purchase agreement (PPA) with an unidentified, strategic partner.

The company does not identify the remaining 2 portfolios either, but shared that on completion the new platform will supply clean energy for more than 1.2 million homes, while creating jobs and bringing private investment into the country.

It is also exploring addition of hybrid solutions as storage systems with large scale batteries to the 3 portfolios.

Mainstream builds this platform on the lines of its 1.35 GW Andes Renovables platform, also in Chile (see Financial Closure For Mainstream's 630 MW Chile Projects). Its 1st portfolio Condor has been grid connected, and the entire platform will come online by 2022.

The Irish company is also exploring green hydrogen and low-cost ammonia in Chile under a letter of intent signed with Aker Clean Hydrogen in February 2021, using the company's own portfolio of wind and solar projects here.
