SEG Solar, a module makers with production in the US and China, announced that it has signed an agreement with Indonesia based PT Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang (KITB) as it plans to set up manufacturing in the South-East Asian nation.

They signed is a lease agreement for about 41 hectares of land in Batang Regency in Central Java, Indonesia for a period of about 80 years as SEG plans to build a 5 GW solar cell production facility and a 3 GW solar module manufacturing facility on this land. Investment for the project will be about $500 million.  will build these facilities through its joint venture company – ATW Solar Manufaktur Indonesia, and also in partnership with PT ATW Investasi Selaras (ATW Group), who will assist SEG with the development of the facilities at the local level.

SEG has plans to establish manufacturing facilities in Indonesia by tying up with other PV component suppliers like wafers, ingots, junction boxes, frames, and EVA films, thus making way for comprehensive business development across the entire PV value chain.

Commenting on this, CEO of SEG Jim Wood said, “The country offers a supportive environment with favorable policies, taxation benefits and abundant silicon resources.”

Meanwhile, President Director of KITB, Ngurah Wirawan, said “KITB is looking forward to partnering with the SEG to bring more renewable energy production to the country.”

Reacting to the sentiments, Founder and chairman of ATW Group Antonius Weno said, “The world-class manufacturing experience and financial commitment from SEG will upscale Indonesian involvement in the global supply chain of the renewable energy industry.”

Earlier this month, Chinese high-tech enterprise Horad announced via WeChat that the company and SEG Solar have come together in Munich, Germany, signing a partner agreement to build a 2 GW TOPCon advanced module manufacturing line at SEG’s Texas base in the United States (see China PV Solar News Snippets).
