One of the world’s largest food and beverage companies Nestlé will make an undisclosed equity investment in Enel North America’s 208 MW DC Ganado Solar PV and Storage Project in Texas. Nestlé will also purchase 100% of its renewable electricity attributes to power its US facilities.

Enel expects to bring the project online in Q2/2023. Jackson County located Ganado project is estimated to generate an average of 333,000 MWh annually for 15 years for Nestlé enabling it to power production facilities where it produces DiGiorno pizza, Stouffer’s, Nesquik, Purina Pro Plan pet food and Tidy Cats cat litter and other products.

Nestlé targets to source 100% renewable electricity across its sites globally by 2025 including wind and solar to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. It sees Ganado investment as an important milestone to achieve this objective.

“Not only will our investment in Ganado help reduce carbon emissions across our US manufacturing sites, but we’re also proud that it will help expand the availability of renewable energy in the U.S., adding enough solar electricity to power about 24,574 homes each year,” said Nestlé North America’s Chief Procurement Officer Kate Short.

Nestlé previously invested in a 250 MW AC Taygete I Solar Plant of 7X Energy in Pecos County, Texas back in 2020 which was the company’s largest direct investment by capacity, power from which was targeted to produce some of the above-mentioned brands.

Corporate offtakers of renewable energy are opting for solar more than ever, according to American Clean Power Association (ACP) that said the largest procurer of clean energy in the US in 2022 was Amazon (see US Corporates Signed Up For Nearly 20 GW Clean Energy In 2022).
