  • EDPR has signed a long-term solar power purchase agreement with P&G in Italy
  • It pertains to supply of solar power from 2 projects of 142 MW DC/109 MW AC capacity
  • Both the projects are located in Lazio region and scheduled to enter commercial operations in 2023

American consumer goods firm Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for solar energy supply with EDP Renewables (EDPR) to source clean electricity for its Italian operations.

EDPR says it will supply solar energy to P&G from a portfolio of 2 projects in Italy's Lazio region, with a combined capacity of 142 MW DC/109 MW AC.

Both these facilities are currently scheduled to start commercial operations within 2023. It added that these projects will help avoid an estimated 52,000 ton of carbon emissions annually once online.

"As of today, EDPR has now secured ~35% of its solar capacity target additions contributing to a total secured capacity of ~44% of the ~17 GW established for the 2023-26 period," EDPR added.

At the end of Q1/2023, EDPR reached a total installed renewable energy capacity of 14.8 GW with Europe and North America representing 38% and 49% respectively. It counts to have 5 GW capacity under construction globally.

This agreement follows previous arrangement between the 2 companies when in September 2021, EDPR said it will supply clean energy from 127.5 MW capacity to P&G for 15 years, without specifying the power generation source. By 2040, P&G aims to achieve net zero emissions status.

In 2022, P&G signed up to source solar power from Engie's 200 MW PV project in the US (see North America PV News Snippets).
