Q CELLS North America has joined hands with developer and financier Kendall Sustainable Infrastructure (KSI) in the US to collaborate on distributed scale assets, including solar and storage, which it believes will add to its capabilities as a complete energy solutions provider.
Both the companies plan to closely collaborate on project co-development and financing with the module manufacturer adding its energy management software (EMS) and renewable energy hardware expertise along with battery energy storage services (BESS), to the partnership.
It has also allocated an undisclosed amount as capital for investment into KSI projects in the US, including those that could include solar modules, battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid services and Geli EMS. In December 2020, Q CELLS acquired energy storage solutions software company, Growing Energy Labs or Geli that marked its entry into the US commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage market.
"We look forward to engaging in project development initiatives with KSI through providing our hardware, software and financing solutions designed to maximize returns while de-risking energy storage revenues," said Senior Vice President of Q CELLS North America's Distributed Energy Solutions business, San Loflin.
The partnership will also help Q CELLS de-risk projects and venture into additional grid service revenue streams.
For Q Cells, this partnership follows a grid equity investment it made in American solar and storage projects developer Amped Solutions in August 2021, in lieu of rights to future grid services revenue to be generated by Amped's operating systems in California (see North America PV Snippets: Norsk, Dynamic, Q CELLS).
