Sahaj Solar Limited, an EPC and module supplier from India, has announced plans to establish a 750 MW solar panel manufacturing factory in the UAE. This is a strategic deviation from its previously considered location, India.

It was earlier considering launching phase I of 750 MW capacity in India, but the focus shifted to the UAE “considering the market scenario and to leverage the pricing and economic advantages available at global level”, the management stated.

While the company did not specify further, the move may reflect expectations that manufacturing in the UAE could provide easier access to global markets and export destinations, potentially without certain trade barriers.

Earlier China’s Changzhou Almaden had announced plans to establish a 500,000-ton solar glass manufacturing facility in the UAE (see China’s Almaden Plans 500,000 Ton Solar Glass Plant In UAE).

The UAE fab will be set up by a step-down subsidiary of Sahaj Solar—tentatively named Sahaj Energy Solar Panels Manufacturing. Its incorporation will be undertaken by the parent company’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sahaj Renewable Energy Trading—FZCO.

It plans to collaborate with a strategic partner for the proposed UAE fab. Sahaj Renewable Energy Trading will own 51% of the incorporated entity.

As of FY2024, Sahaj Solar was operating 100 MW solar module production capacity at its Bavla plant in Gujarat which it aims to scale up to 1.6 GW by FY2027. Of this, it targets to complete 750 MW by March 2026.

Sahaj Solar announced that its TOPCon modules have been included in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) through a Co-ALMM arrangement with Cosmic PV Power Private Limited, an ALMM-listed manufacturer. The Co-ALMM framework, maintained by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), allows brands to market modules produced at approved manufacturing facilities under their own name.
