Key Takeaways
  • Sinovoltaics’ latest production map for Southeast Asia counts 78.8 GW of solar module production capacity

  • It is expected to grow to over 92 GW by 2027/2030 with the addition of 14 GW announced plans

  • The region’s solar cell capacity is likely to expand from 50 GW to 68 GW

Solar and battery storage consultancy Sinovoltaics sees tremendous growth in the solar PV manufacturing space of Southeast Asia as it expects the region’s module production capacity to grow by an additional 14 GW by 2027/2030 up from the current capacity of 78.8 GW.

In its report Q2 Southeast Asia Solar Supply Chain Map (SSCM), the analysts count the region’s combined production capacity for solar cells to grow from 50 GW now to 68 GW by 2027/2030, based on the press releases and market data released by various companies.

By the same time frame, ingot production capacity is also likely to grow to 32.6 GW, which is an upward revision from its previous forecast of 23 GW.

According to the report writers, this version has some notable changes compared to the Q1 report. It does not include BIPV module manufacturers.

This report mentions newer players in the region like Imperial Star Solar and SolarSpace in Laos, BoWay Solar Power Technology and CRC Solar in Vietnam, Gstar in Indonesia and Thailand, and Elite Solar in Cambodia.

Overall, it maps 58 projects in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, and Laos.

The report can be downloaded for free on its website. It also publishes similar solar supply chain maps for North America, Europe and India regions. It believes these interactive maps, updated every 4 months, show which players are expanding their production capabilities.
