Key Takeaways
  • TerraForm Power has acquired Sun Tribe Development, gaining over 4 GW of solar and storage pipeline

  • It more than doubles the company’s development pipeline to over 6 GW across the US

  • Sun Tribe says it will retain its EPC and O&M divisions while the development team integrates with TerraForm

TerraForm Power, a US-based renewable energy development company, has acquired utility-scale solar and storage developer Sun Tribe Development with its more than 4 GW of project pipeline.

Along with 4.1 GW of development pipeline across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast US, Sun Tribe has also installed more than 800 MW of capacity since its inception in 2019.

Announcing the acquisition, Sun Tribe on its LinkedIn account stated, “And while Sun Tribe Development is taking on a new identity, our other businesses — including Sun Tribe EPC and O&M — continue to grow and drive our mission forward with their focus on the utility- and community-scale markets, providing engineering, procurement, and construction services and asset management support.”

With this, Brookfield Asset Management-backed TerraForm says it has more than doubled its development pipeline to over 6 GW of solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). TerraForm’s current portfolio comprises 3.4 GW of utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage facilities.

“Together, we’ll rapidly expand TerraForm Power’s footprint across the U.S. to meet this moment and deliver much-needed, domestically sourced power to support digitalization and reindustrialization in the country,” said TerraForm Power’s CEO and President Mark Noyes. “Sun Tribe Development’s portfolio complements our existing development pipeline and enhances our position as a partner of choice to the largest buyers of clean power.”

Earlier this year, Sun Tribe and Engie were selected to develop solar and storage projects on former coal mines in the US (see 17 Solar & Storage Projects To Transform Former Coal Mines In US).
