One of the largest European energy giants, TotalEnergies is venturing into the solar market of Poland with the acquisition of 6 under development solar power plants representing a combined 200 MW capacity.

All greenfield PV projects, the solar power plants are spread across northern and western Poland. Initial solar farms are scheduled to start commercial operations by 2025, however the French company did not reveal individual project sizes or exact locations these PV facilities.

A Reuters report identifies FFKM112 as the seller of the 6 solar projects to TotalEnergies. The French company has also acquired a biogas producer Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB) in Poland.

Regarding the acquisition, TotalEnergies' President Gas, Renewables and Power, Stéphane Michel said, "These agreements illustrate TotalEnergies' commitment to developing its renewable activities in Poland, and in Europe as a whole, to support the European Green Deal."

TotalEnergies' expansion is aimed at supporting the company's goal of reaching 35 GW gross production capacity for renewable energy and storage by 2025, scaling up to 100 GW by 2030, comprising mainly wind and solar power. At the end of 2022, it had reached close to 17 GW.

Poland's cumulative installed solar PV capacity exceeds 10 GW inching closer to the 16 GW target the government targets by 2040. According to the Polish Institute for Renewable Energy (IEO), the country can host much more than 16 GW, up to 28.5 GW by 2030-end which makes it an attractive European solar market (see Poland Could Host 28.5 GW Solar By 2030).
