  • According to the MIIT, China produced 43.13 GW of solar modules in July 2022 and August 2022
  • Its total module exports during 8M/2022 increased 70.2% annually to about 108 GW
  • Cell production in July 2022 and August 2022 was 47.6 GW while polysilicon produced was 120,500 tons

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) says the country exported about 108 GW crystalline silicon modules during the period between January 2022 and August 2022, reflecting an annual increase of 70.2% YoY in the export volumes.

Between July 2022 and August 2022, its solar module production output was about 43.13 GW.

For crystalline silicon solar cells, China produced close to 47.6 GW capacity during the 2 months of July 2022 and August 2022, out of which it exported 4.2 GW that points on the one hand at the big appetite the country's module makers have themselves, and the strong dominance of Chinese module makers.

Citing data from businesses and industry associations, MIIT shared that the country's national output for polysilicon in the 2 months of July and August this year added up to 120,500 tons. China manufactured around 53.67 GW silicon wafers during this period, of which it exported 6.1 GW.

In July, the ministry said China's module production in H1/2022 was 123.6 GW and included 78.6 GW that was exported (see China's Solar PV Production Capacity In H1/2022). In September, Shanghai, China based solar PV market intelligence firm Gessey PV Consulting counted Chinese solar module manufacturers as having shipped over 60 GW solar modules to all of Europe between January 2022 and August 2022, a clear sign of huge demand for China made products in Europe during the continent's severe energy crisis (see Massive Volumes of Chinese Modules Entering Europe).
