China PV News Snippets: LONGi, Module Tender Call

LONGi Starts 10 GW Monocrystalline Solar Cell Fab In Xi’an, China; China Southern Power Issues Call To Procure 100 MW Solar PV Modules

  • LONGi puts monocrystalline solar cell production fab with 10 GW annual capacity online
  • China Southern Power has solicited bids to procure high efficiency monocrystalline solar modules with 100 MW combined capacity
  • China Electricity Council says in H1/2020 China added 10.15 GW of newly installed solar power capacity, 1.5 GW less than last year

10 GW LONGi solar cell fab enters production: Xi’an headquartered LONGi has started production at its 10 GW monocrystalline solar cell fab as of July 22, 2020. The vertically integrated PV module maker said the first phase of supporting pilot projects were officially put into production. The 10 GW solar cell factory located in the Xi’an Aerospace Base is the third investment project that LONGi completed and put into production in Shaanxi this year. Now both its module factory in Xianyang and the cell factory in the Economic Development Zone have been officially commissioned, and through these 3 bases LONGi said it will provide its customers with high-quality and efficient solar products globally. The PV products manufacturer announced its plans to build 10 GW monocrystalline solar cell facility in Xi’an in February 2020 (see LONGi To Build 10 GW Monocrystalline Cell Fab).

LONGi will present about its latest module innovations and participate in an Executive Panel at the 500 W+ Solar Module Virtual Conference of TaiyangNews on July 29 & July 30, 2020. Registration to the virtual conference is for free here.

100 MW PV module tender call: China Southern Power has issued a call to procure 100 MW of solar PV modules. It specifically needs high efficiency monocrystalline bifacial double glass silicon solar PV modules with at least 335 W power output per piece, as well as high efficiency single-sided single glass monocrystalline silicon PV modules with a minimum of 340 W output per piece. As per PV Men, the tenderer wants shipments to be delivered after August 20, 2020. Bids in response to this call will be accepted till August 13, 2020.

10.15 GW solar power generation capacity in H1/2020: The China Electricity Council says between January 2020 to June 2020, the newly installed solar power generation capacity of China was 10.15 GW, which is 1.5 GW down from last year. This was the technology’s share out of total new 2019 power generation capacity addition of 36.95 GW in the reporting period. This is a bit lower than what the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA) estimated recently, saying that in H1/2020 China improved its annual solar installed capacity by 0.9% to 11.5 GW and expects 40 GW to 43 GW of annual PV additions in 2020 (see China PV News Snippets: Talesun & Jolywood).
