Honsun announcement for ingot/wafer production: High-tech enterprise Hunan Huamin Holding Group’s subsidiary, Honsun, announced via WeChat that it will be building the second phase of its 10 GW high-efficiency n-type monocrystalline silicon ingots and wafers facility, and a new 10 GW silicon ingots and 4 GW silicon wafers facility in Xiangyun County, Dali. On completion, Honsun will have a 20 GW monocrystalline silicon rods and 14 GW monocrystalline silicon wafers production capacity in Dali.

LN Energy launches TOPCon module: Solar cell and modules seller LN Energy said via WeChat that it has produced its first n-type TOPCon module. The module with high conversion efficiency, low attenuation, and good low-light effect can help customers reduce BOS costs. With LN Energy’s 2 GW TOPCon module facility going into production, the total production capacity of PV modules will now touch 3 GW.

S.C New Energy to raise money for expansion in perovskites: Solar PV production equipment manufacturer S.C New Energy Technology Corporation announced that it will be investing about RMB 961 million ($133 million), which it plans to raise through issue of corporate bonds to unspecified objects. The raised funds will be invested in perovskite, where the company plans to build a perovskite laminated equipment facility in Jiangsu. The facility is expected to be completed in 2.5 years and on completion will have an annual output of 160 magnetron sputtering coating equipment (PVD), 119 reactive plasma coating equipment (RPD) and 60 vacuum evaporation equipment (MAR).

Guangdong Electrics releases solar module tender results: Releasing the candidate list for its second batch of solar module tenders for 2023, Guangdong Electric Power Development said that DAS Solar is first in the running with a bidding price of RMB 1.3/W ($0.18/W), followed by JA Solar at RMB 1.38/W ($0.19/W) and CSI Solar (subsidiary of Canadian Solar) at RMB 1.36/W ($0.19/W), local media reports said. The tender is for 222 MW bifacial modules, which will be used across four facilities. Meanwhile, last year, Guangdong Electric Power Development had shared plans to add 14 GW of new installed energy capacity during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (see China Solar PV News Snippets)

National renewable power consumption data released for May 2023: National New Energy Consumption Monitoring and Early Warning Center, on its official website, released the national new energy grid-connected consumption data for May 2023. Here are the details:

  • In May 2023, national average solar power utilization was 98.3%, and wind power utilization rate was 96.5%
  • During Jan-May 2023, Tibet recorded the lowest solar utilization rate at 75.1%, while Inner Mongolia recorded the lowest wind power utilization rate (90.6% for west IM and 89.4% for east IM)
