  • Tajikistan says it has signed an MoU with China’s EGing PV for investment in solar PV
  • EGing plans to invest $150 million in the initial stage for a 200 MW solar plant
  • Overall, it has committed to a $1.5 billion cumulative investment in 4 stages

Chinese solar PV solar cell and modules manufacturer, and EPC company EGing PV Technology plans to invest $1.5 billion into building solar PV capacity in Tajikistan, under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the country’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade recently.

According to the ministry, EGing plans to build a 200 MW solar power plant worth $150 million in the initial stage. It is planned to be located in the Panj Free Economic Zone. EGing’s plans include a total investment of $1.5 billion spread over 4 stages.

Tajikistan is making news in the world of solar energy of late and this is a continuation of that. Earlier this month, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon laid the foundation stone of the country’s maiden solar module production facility with a planned annual production capacity of 5 GW.

Global Solar Wafer company from South Korea will build this PV factory in the Danghara Free Economic Zone in 4 stages. Total investment in the project is envisaged at $2 billion. More than 8,000 people will be employed through the full project implementation out of which 95% will be locals, according to a statement from the President’s office.

Construction of the PV fab under phase I is planned for July 2024, to be completed by March 2025.

Last year in October 2023, Abu Dhabi’s Masdar said it will explore 500 MW clean energy capacity in the country under a joint venture with W Solar Investment (see Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Expands In Central Asia).
