Chinese Polysilicon Production Up Around 50% In 10M/2022

China Produced More Than 230 GW Crystalline Silicon Solar Cells During 10M/2022 But Exported Only 19 GW, Says MIIT

  • Chinese production of crystalline silicon solar cells during 10M/2022 exceeded 230 GW
  • It exported 19 GW reflecting an annual increase of 117.4%, while module exports added up to 132 GW
  • Polysilicon production of 610,000 tons during the period improved 49.3% YoY and wafer production by 40.7%

Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) counts the country to have produced more than 230 GW of crystalline silicon solar cells between January 2022 and October 2022, and exported about 132 GW crystalline silicon solar modules during the period.

The module exports represent an annual increase of 61% for this period. This is an increase of 24 GW from about 108 GW China exported during 8M/2022, the ministry said (see China Exported 108 GW Silicon Solar Modules In 8M/2022).

However, there is a great deal of demand for solar cells within China as the country exported only some 19 GW during the reporting period with an annual jump of 117.4%.

As for polysilicon, China produced 49.3% more on annual basis to a total of 610,000 tons. Wafer production, on the other hand was also up by 40.7% compared to last year.

Previously, MIIT counted 12.725 million tons PV rolled glass production in 10M/2022 having grown 70.5% annually (see China PV News Snippets).

Recently, the National Energy Administration (NEA) of China said the country’s total installed solar PV capacity increased to 372 GW with the addition of 65.7 GW within 11M/2022 meaning 13.11 GW added in October 2022 and November 2022 (see China PV News Snippets).
