  • Company’s new Bi-Directional DC EV Charger enables solar-powered Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionalities
  • The EV battery can also function as a large home battery storage solution (V2H) of up to 50 kWh and is compatible with both 400 V and 800 V EV powertrains via a standard CSS connector

SolarEdge Technologies, Inc. has introduced a Commercial Storage System (CSS) and launched a new bidirectional DC-coupled EV charger. The CSS is DC-coupled and is specifically designed for small to medium-scale commercial PV installations.

The system is mainly suited for indoor usage, delivers 58 kWh of battery capacity. It has the capacity to link up to 8 batteries per inverter, providing a storage capacity of up to 460 kWh, and facilitating the synchronization of solar battery and site-level energy management. The system is crafted to integrate with SolarEdge’s Energy Management ecosystem, allowing owners to shorten payback periods by utilizing more stored energy for peak shaving, maximizing PV self-consumption, exploiting Time-of-Use rates, grid services, and providing support for EV charging. Additionally, it offers small and medium-sized businesses the flexibility to enhance their storage capacity by adding more batteries as their requirements change over time. The battery will incorporate SolarEdge’s multilayered suite of built-in safety features, including arc detection, and is expected to receive UL 9540A certification for indoor use. Its lightweight, compact, and modular design allows for easy transport and installation by a team of just 2 people. It’s scheduled for commercial availability in the latter half of 2024.

The company’s Bi-Directional DC EV Charger is set to enable solar-powered Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionalities. The charger, based on SolarEdge’s DC-coupled architecture, offers direct EV charging from PV with minimal AC-to- DC power conversions and fast charging up to 24 kW by drawing electricity from PV, home battery, and the grid simultaneously. On top, SolarEdge’s ONE energy optimization system enhances savings through smart algorithms, calculating dynamic utility prices and enabling homeowners to receive payments from electricity suppliers during demand response events by discharging stored EV battery power back to the grid (V2G). Additionally, the EV battery functions as a large home battery storage solution (V2H) of up to 50 kWh, compatible with both 400 V and 800 V EV powertrains via a standard CSS connector.
