EDF Brings Back Bensasson

• French utility EDF has brought back Bruno Bensasson as the Group Senior Executive President responsible for renewable energies at EDF
• He will also be the CEO of EDF Energies Nouvelles; till now he was the CEO of Engie Africa
• Bensasson had previously worked at GDF SUEZ
• He will take over from April 16, 2018 from outgoing CEO Antonie Cahuzac

French energy company EDF brings back one of its senior resources from local rival Engie. Bruno Bensasson, CEO of Engie Africa, has been appointed EDF Group Senior Executive President responsible for renewable energies. He will also become the CEO of the company's renewable energy arm, EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN).

Bensasson joined French utility company SUEZ in 2007. Four years later, he became the director of Strategy and Sustainable Development of GDF SUEZ (now Engie). The next promotion was a C-level job. In 2013, he was appointed CEO of GDF SUEZ Energie France and then executive vice president in charge of the renewable energy division at GDF SUEZ Energie Europe.

Since 2016, he has been the CEO of Engie Africa. At EDF, he takes over from Antoine Cahuzac who will be retiring. Cahuzac will keep an advisor role to the CEO till the end of 2018 to ensure smooth transition.

Bensasson will come on board from April 16, 2018. He rejoins the company at a time when the energy giant has big plans for renewable energy. In December 2017, it announced plans to deploy 30 GW of new solar power capacity in France between 2020 to 2035 (see EDF Targets 30 GW In France). A few days prior to the release of Banasson's appointment, the company said its "goal is to develop 10 GW of additional storage around the world by 2035, on top of the 5GW already operated by the Group." This acceleration represents an investment of €8 billion during the 2018-2035 period and is aimed at making EDF the electricity storage leader in Europe by 2035.
