Engie Acquires 33 Projects From Belltown Power

Engie Adds 6 GW Solar & Battery Storage Projects Boosting Its Renewable Development Pipeline
  • Engine acquires 2.7 GW of solar with 0.7 GW of paired storage and 2.6 GW of stand-alone battery storage from Belltown Power
  • The projects are spread across ERCOT, PJM, MISO and WECC1
  • The projects to boost Engie's existing renewables and storage pipeline

French energy company Engie's American subsidiary Engie North America has acquired from Belltown Power US, a greenfield developer of solar PV and energy storage projects, about 33 projects that include 6 GW portfolio of solar, paired and stand-alone battery storage development projects.

The projects include about 2.7 GW of solar with 0.7 GW of paired storage and 2.6 GW of stand-alone battery storage. These projects are spread across Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT); Pennsylvania New Jersey Maryland Interconnection LLC (PJM); Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO); Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC).

The projects will boost Engie's existing renewables and storage pipeline in the US. As of June 2022, Engie had 3.9 GW of installed renewable capacity at 100% in North America.

On this development, Chief Renewables Officer and Head of Engie North America Dave Carroll said, "These projects are a tremendous addition to our existing renewables pipeline. The mix of solar, paired and stand-alone storage across a wide set of geographies both complements our existing portfolio as well as provides opportunities for expansion into new areas in the United States. The 3.3 GW of battery storage projects will be a critical enabler of flexibility and supports the balance of the grid to improve its reliability and resilience."

Last month Engie had announced its final investment decision for a $87 million renewable hydrogen plant for Yara Pilbara Fertilizers in Western Australia (see Engie's Australia Hydrogen Project Moves Forward).

Last year, Belltown Power sold a 180 MW project to pipeline operator Buckeye Partners in Texas, US (see North America PV Snippets)
