- Iberdrola has signed up Danone España as the offtaker for 590 MW solar power capacity in Spain it is developing
- Both have got into 2 separate agreements for 73 GWh annually and 104 GWh annually for 10 years
- It will ensure renewable energy supply to all of Danone’s production plants in Spain including natural water sources it uses
- Danone’s suppliers Graham Packaging and Salvesen Logistica will also join the agreement
Francisco Pizarro, the 590 MW solar power plant being developed by Iberdrola as the ‘biggest’ PV project in Europe, has found an offtaker in food producer Danone España that has also got its suppliers Graham Packaging and Salvesen Logistica to join the agreement.
Under the agreement with Danone, Iberdrola will supply 73 GWh annually to the company for 10 years beginning April 2022. “Danone will complete its green energy supply with another annual energy contract with Iberdrola up to 104 GWh/year,” stated Iberdrola. All of this clean energy will come from the 590 MW project that’s set to become operational in 2022.
Danone plans to use this solar power to its 29 supply points in Spain, including its production plants and natural water sources, ensuring that 100% of the renewable electricity used in its plants and factories in the country will come from the solar project.
“The alliance reinforces Iberdrola’s strategy for renewable project development in Spain through bi-lateral contracts, which support the supply of clean energy at competitive and stable prices with large customers committed to sustainable consumption,” said Iberdrola.
This is the 2nd solar power supply agreement for the €300 million project that’s coming up in Extremadura. In November 2020, Iberdrola signed an agreement with Bayer to provide the German pharmaceutical company clean energy from the plant (see German Pharma Company To Get Solar Power In Spain).
