Germany continued a high solar installation rate in the month of June 2020 with its Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) reporting 436.927 MW of new additions. This is only slightly lower than 446.22 MW it reported for the month of May 2020, the highest monthly addition so far in 2020 (see Germany Installed Over 446 MW Solar In May 2020).

June 2020 additions are much higher than what the agency reported originally for the month of June 2019 at 235 MW, and was later adjusted to 271.7 MW (see Germany Installed 270.5 MW New Solar In Nov 2019).

The largest contribution to the June 2020 numbers came from the rooftop segment with 336 MW. In the first half of 2020, German PV additions can be counted up to 2.36 GW, compared to last year’s 2.05 GW during the same time.

At the end of July 2020, Germany’s cumulative installed solar PV capacity added up to 51.53 GW.

If the monthly additions continue at a steady pace in 2020, the country will exceed 4 GW this year, which would be more than last year, and this despite COVID-19.

In its Global Market Outlook 2020-2024 report, European solar PV lobby association SolarPower Europe (SPE) sees Germany to install 2.7 GW in the low scenario in the year 2020 with COVID-19 pandemic bringing it down, but in the high scenario it could breach the 4 GW mark with as much as 4.5 GW this year. However, it believes the market will pick up pace dramatically next year  with 2021 additions being seen anywhere between 6 GW to 7 GW (see SolarPower Europe Lowers 2020 PV Guidance To 112 GW).
