Winning Tariffs For Germany’s Oversubscribed 2nd Rooftop Solar Auction Go Up

The average winning tariff in Germany’s 2nd rooftop solar round went up, along with lowest and highest bids, according to results shared by Bundesnetzagentur.

The German Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur has revealed the results of the country’s 2nd rooftop solar auction and the results show winning tariffs went up with average bid having gone up by 8% to €0.0743 ($0.085) per kWh.

For this round, the maximum tariff was capped at €0.09 per kWh.

The 2nd round was scheduled for December 1, 2021. It was oversubscribed as the originally tendered capacity of 150 MW attracted 209 bids representing 233 MW in total for solar projects with an installed capacity of more than 300 kW.

The agency finally zeroed in on 136 bids to award 154 MW. Of the winning projects, 25 or 34 MW are distributed in Saxony-Anhalt region, 32 facilities or 22 MW in Brandenburg, and 16 facilities with 25 MW capacity will be located in Lower Saxony.

Winning bids for this round were found to have go up compared to the previous round as lowest and highest tariffs ranged between €0.0570 to €0.0828 ($0.065 to $0.094) per kWh, compared to €0.0535 to €0.0789 per kWh in the previous round (see Germany: 2nd Tech Specific Auction Of 2021 Oversubscribed).

The 3rd rooftop solar auction is now scheduled for April 1, 2022. Pointing towards the new regulations, the agency said the next round will significantly simplify the process for bidders and reduce risk of project delays.
