- AmpIn Energy has announced a joint venture partnership with Jupiter International
- The duo plans to set up a 1.3 GW solar cell and module production plant under PLI tranche-II
- AmpIn will consume the modules produced locally, while also selling these to 3rd party developers
Indian renewable energy company AmpIn Energy Transition has entered into a strategic joint venture with local solar cell producer Jupiter International to establish a manufacturing fab with 1.3 GW solar cell and module capacity/year.
Having rebranded itself from Amp Energy India this year, AmpIn said the state-of-the-art fab will be set up under Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme tranche-II. Further details with regard to location, timeline and investment were not revealed.
AmpIn had won PLI for 500 MW cell and module capacity under PLI tranche-II even as it had offered to build 1 GW capacity (see India Allocates 39.6 GW PV Under PLI Tranche-II).
Its manufacturing partner Jupiter currently operates an 800 MW solar cell fab in the state of Himachal Pradesh, comprising 500 MW mono PERC and 300 MW multi-crystalline cell capacity. The cells are certified by Germany’s Fraunhofer ISE. The company is also present in the solar EPC space.
Modules produced using Jupiter’s cells will be consumed locally by AmpIn and also supplied to 3rd party developers, both locally as well as internationally. AmpIn says its renewable energy portfolio of 3 GW is spread across 17 Indian states.
AmpIn MD and CEO Pinaki Bhattacharyya said, “This move will help us achieve backward integration and enhance our control over the supply chain for crucial components, which would help us optimize our operations for quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.”
AmpIn had previously announced its decision to venture into PV manufacturing in September 2022 under a joint venture partnership with solar cell and module producer Websol Energy Systems Limited. They had plans to produce up to 1.2 GW monocrystalline PERC solar cells and up to 1.2 GW modules (see Joint Venture For 2.4 GW Mono PERC Cells & Modules).
