• India’s MNRE has specified that the country’s 175 GW renewable energy target achievement date is December 31, 2022
  • It had to issue the clarification to set the record straight going by the mention of the target as year 2022 or year 2021-22 at various places
  • In a statement issued a day earlier, MNRE said it is confident of exceeding the 175 GW goal by the target date

The Government of India has issued a clarification regarding its targeted date for achieving its renewable energy goal by the year 2022. In a statement issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), it has specified the 175 GW target date is December 31, 2022.

It had to issue the clarification to clear up the confusion in the dates since MNRE observed the stated target is mentioned differently at various places, i.e. by the year 2022 or by fiscal year 2021-22.

The clarification came a day after the ministry refuted claims of a CRISIL report that forecast the country to miss its renewable energy target of 175 GW by 42% (see India To Fall Short Of 2022 RE Target By 42%: CRISIL). In the statement, MNRE said it is confident of not only achieving but also exceeding the 175 GW target by, now clarified, December 31, 2022 (see MNRE Hits Back; Says India Will Exceed 175 GW RE Goal).
