  • India‘s MNRE has launched a call inviting proposals for renewable energy R&D to promote indigenous technology
  • For solar energy, among projects to be considered will also relate to recycling of modules and high efficiency solar cell technologies
  • Both public and private academic institutions, industries, startups and organizations involved in the R&D for promotion of new and renewable energy, among others can submit their proposals

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India is inviting proposals from various stakeholders under its Renewable Energy Research and Technology Development Programme (RE-RTD-2022) with an aim to promote indigenous technology to accelerate renewable energy deployment in the country.

It strives to support research and development (R&D) projects for technology development and demonstrations across renewable energy spectrum, including for solar PV, hybrid, and storage systems, that contribute to convert available know-how to useful product or processes.

The goal is to increase the share of renewables in the national energy mix, and also to make the industry internationally competitive and renewable energy generation self-sustainable/profitable.

In the space of solar energy, it will admit projects that relate to recycling of PV modules at the end of their life and processes for segregation/reuse of different components. Development of high efficiency perovskite/organic/multijunction solar cells, automatic shadow detection via digital image process for solar rooftops, portable rooftop solar plug and play systems, and development of hybrid inverters suitable for Indian grid will also be considered.

The call is open to both public and private academic institutions, industries, societies, NGOs, trusts, startups and organizations involved in the R&D for promotion of new and renewable energy.

Proposals can be submitted till July 10, 2022. Details are available on MNRE’s website.
