OIL has brought online a solar powered pure green hydrogen plant in Assam; GIZ backs India’s 1st portable rooftop solar system installation in Gujarat; REMCL has entered a MoU with SJVN and BHEL for renewable energy projects for Indian Railways.
OIL commissions green hydrogen plant: Indian government owned Oil India Limited (OIL) has commissioned what it calls India’s 1st 99.999% pure green hydrogen pilot plant with a capacity to produce 10 kg per day. It is powered by a 500 kW solar PV plant and uses 100 kW Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) technology. OIL said this is the 1st time AEM technology is being used in India. The project has come up at its Jorhat Pump Station in Assam and was brought online within a 3-month period. The petroleum company says it has initiated a detailed study in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on the blending of green hydrogen with natural gas and its effect on the existing infrastructure of the company. The company also plans to study use cases for commercial applications of the blended fuel, it added.
India’s 1st portable rooftop solar system: In another 1st for India, German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) announced the launch of a portable solar rooftop system. This installation comprising 10 PV port systems was realized by Servotech Power Systems Ltd (SPSL) in Gujarat for the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple complex. GIZ has designed the PV ports as a plug and play system with a minimum of 2 kW capacity and comes with our without energy storage. It can run for up to 25 years to 30 years.
MoU for renewable energy for Indian Railways: SJVN, Bharat heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and REMCL have entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop to develop renewable energy projects for Indian Railways. According to Press Trust of India (PTI), the MoU is aimed at more efficient consumption of power for the railways while bringing in competitive tariffs for the overall benefit of consumers. SJVN currently has 3.065 GW of solar power capacity under various stages of development with its total portfolio adding up to 16.9 GW. The company aims to grow its overall portfolio to 50 GW by 2040 (see MoUs & LOIs For 90 GW+ RE In Rajasthan).
