NTPC REL has signed MoUs with GACL for green ammonia and green methanol production, and with Rajasthan for 10 GW UMREPP; Jakson Group is venturing into green hydrogen and ammonia production with new entity; Azure Power secures SA8000:2014 certificate.

NTPC MoU with GACL: Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) to establish the ‘1st’ commercial scale green ammonia and green methanol project in India. The duo will also explore opportunities for the supply of 100 MW renewable energy on round-the-clock (RTC) basis and synthesizing 75 tons per day (TPD) green methanol along with 35 TPD green ammonia for captive use. These products will be used by GACL to produce various chemicals at its Vadodara and Dahej complex in Gujarat. GACL is state-owned chemical manufacturing company, and the country’s largest producer of caustic soda.

Another MoU with Rajasthan for 10 GW RE: NTPC REL has also entered a MoU with the State Government of Rajasthan to develop 10 GW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPP) in the state. NTPC said this MoU is aligned with its strategy to achieve 60 GW renewable energy capacity for the NTPC Group by 2032. It is already developing a UMREPP of 4.75 GW in Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.

Jakson enters green hydrogen space: Jakson Group has forayed into green hydrogen and ammonia space with the launch of a new venture called Jakson Green Pvt Limited (JGPL). The new entity will also be active in waste-to-energy, electrolyzers and fuel cells, utility scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar and related operation and maintenance services across these lines of business. JGPL has already entered an agreement with a US based fuel cell maker, not identified, to pursue hydrogen projects in India. To lead the venture, Jakson Group has hired Bikesh Ogra as the CEO and MD who comes to the group from renowned solar EPC Sterling & Wilson Solar Ltd (SWSL) where he served as the global CEO. JGPL will have Kannan Krishnan as its COO.

Azure Power gets social accountability certificate: Azure Power says it has become the 1st Indian renewable energy company to have been granted SA8000:2014 certification. Given by Social Accountability International (SAI) of the US, SA8000 is an international standard for social accountability for organizations to conduct their business in a fair manner for their workers. “We are proud to have implemented systems and processes that resulted in achieving the SA8000 certification and are committed to continually improve our social performance. Obtaining and maintaining the certification provides a well-defined framework to conduct business in a socially responsible manner,” explained Azure Power’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) Sumit Barat.
