India’s C&I RE capacity well over 17 GW: A Bridge to India (BTI) report titled India Corporate Renewable Brief Q1/2021 notes the country’s total installed commercial and industrial (C&I) renewable energy generation capacity in Q1/2021 grew by 601 MW (an increase of 20% YoY), to a total of 17.81 GW at the end of March 2021. This comprises 4.468 GW of open access solar (OA solar), 7.315 GW of open access wind (OA wind) and 6.017 GW of rooftop solar power capacity. According to the report, C&I renewable power generation is the highest in the southern states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and is now picking up pace in states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Solar for Kajaria Ceramics: Indian ceramics manufacturer Kajaria Ceramics Limited has secured in-principal approval from its board to invest equity in a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to be formed by CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions Private Limited to set up a captive solar power plant. The company plans to invest INR 26.4 million ($0.36 million) in the captive solar project to reduce power cost of its Sikanderabad plant in Uttar Pradesh. This investment is to comply with the country’s Electricity Act under which as a captive user, the company needs to invest in the SPV.

CESL’s solar tender for Leh: A wholly-owned subsidiary of Indian government’s Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) has issued an EPC tender for a 242 kW solar PV based electric carport and rooftop solar power plant, with 762 kWh of lithium based battery energy storage system (BESS). It needs to be set up at Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh. Along with design, engineering, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning, project operation and maintenance for 5 years is also part of job description. Last date to submit bids is August 13, 2021. Tender details can be viewed on EESL’s eprocure website with tender no. CESL/06/2021-22/BESS/212207023.
