  • Waaree Solar Americas has announced Gordon Brinser as the company’s new COO
  • Brinser has extensive experience of working in the semiconductor silicon wafer and solar industry
  • He previously worked with SolarWorld Industries Americas for more than 6 years

India’s leading solar module manufacturing company Waaree Energies Limited has announced the appointment of Gordon Brinser as the chief operating officer (COO) of its US presence, Waaree Solar Americas.

In a short press statement, Waaree said Brinser has extensive experience and has been working towards advancing US manufacturing capabilities.

According to his LinkedIn account, Brinser has been working as COO with Waaree since January 2024. Previously, he was the vice president operations with US-based electronics systems and lithium battery manufacturer EnerSys.

Brinser comes to Waaree with experience of working in the solar industry. For over 6 years, he worked with the German solar panel manufacturer SolarWorld’s American arm SolarWorld Industries America in various positions, leaving it as the special US counsel to chairman in February 2014.

Heading one of the largest vertically integrated solar cell and module producers in the US back then, Brinser led SolarWorld when the company was one of the leading proponents of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy cases against China. It was instrumental and successful in getting the US Department of Commerce to slap around 30% anti-dumping and countervailing duties on solar modules made with Chinese solar cells in 2012. However, SolarWorld ceased production in the US in 2018.

Before SolarWorld, for over 5 years, Brinser was employed with electronic-grade silicon wafer manufacturer for the semiconductor industry, SUMCO. Before that, he spent more than 14 years with another semiconductor wafer manufacturer Siltronic.

“The solar sector is an evolving market with the potential for significant and rapid growth in the coming years,” said Brinser. “This is the time to engage in this industry and contribute to moulding its future direction. I am extremely happy to be a part of Waaree Solar Americas Inc. and look forward to contributing to the company’s mission of providing sustainable energy solutions.”

While in India, Waaree has 12 GW solar module production capacity, the company plans to establish 5 GW module production in Houston, US with an integrated cell capacity. It has already secured a multi-GW offtake agreement with SoftBank Group’s SB Energy (see Waaree’s Solar Cell & Module Manufacturing Plans For US).

Waaree is also sprucing up its senior management team back home in India. Earlier this month, Amit Paithankar came on board as its CEO. Before that the company appointed Nilesh Malani as the new chief marketing officer (see New Chief Executive Officer For India’s Waaree Group).
