Jordan Grants License To 50 MW PV Project

• Al Husainiyah Power Generation Company in Jordan has received a license to develop and generate power from 50 MW solar power plant
• The project will be located in Ma'an region for which it has signed a power purchase agreement with the National Electricity Company
• This project is part of the 250 MW capacity approved by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission in the second phase of licensing; in phase 1,  220 MW were approved

Jordan's Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) has officially approved the construction of a 50 MW solar power plant by granting a license for to Al Husainiyah Power Generation Company. Arabic daily Ad-Dustour reported that the project will be deployed in the Ma'an region of Jordan.

Al-Husainiyah won the rights to generate clean power from the project for a period of 20 years. It will sell clean energy generated by the plant to National Electricity Company under a power purchase agreement (PPA). It had won the project through a competitive bidding process conducted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the National Electricity Company.

This project is part of the country's second licensing round under which EMRC granted a license for 250 MW PV capacity in the form of five projects. The first phase saw the agency approving 220 MW capacity in 13 projects.

Al Husainiyah is a subsidiary of Jordan's solar module manufacturer Philadelphia Solar (PS).
