Jujuy Planning 1 GW PV Plant

• Argentina's Jujuy province is looking at setting up a solar power park of 1 GW capacity
• The province plans to work on a formal project which it may be submitting to the relevant authorities in the next few months
• The provincial government has already started work on 300 MW PV capacity that it won during RenovAr round 1 tender
• Total cost of the three projects of 100 MW capacity each is estimated to be $390 million; Chinese partners shelling out $331 million as loan for the project

Argentinian province of Jujuy is planning to set up a solar power park of 1,000 MW capacity. The plant is to be designed to generate electricity 24 hours a day, reported state news agency Télam. The agencies may be presenting a formal project to the concerned department in the next few months.

No other details were shared in the agency report.

Jujuy government is already working on establishing 300 MW PV capacity that it won during Round 1 of Argentina's flagship renewable energy program RenovAr (see 1 GW Argentina Tender Update).

The 300 MW capacity, divided into three projects of 100 MW each, is being built for a total cost of $390 million, out of which $331 comes from a loan from China. Jujuy government reportedly partnered with Chinese companies namely, Powerchina and Shanghai Electric and Talesun.

All three projects are expected to be operational by May 2018.

The South American nation wants to have 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2025, which will make up about 20% of its total capacity.
