Land Available In Israel For Solar

  • Israel has announced an auction for 28,000 acres of land in Negev Desert for solar energy installations
  • It will be available on lease in the form of 4 lots between Highway 40 and Highway 25
  • The country plans to launch more tenders to expand the supply of land for renewables including agrivoltaic installations

The Israel Land Authority is offering 28,000 acres of land on lease in Negev Desert in Naot Hovav the form of 4 complexes to be used for the development of large scale solar power projects.

Land will be available in Ramat Bekaa special industrial zone for defence, engineering and other industries between Highway 40 and Highway 25.

Winners of the tender will secure authorization contracts to use the land for a period of 3 years and get an option to extend it by another year. Once this process is complete, they will enter into a lease agreement with the authority for electricity generation purpose on site for a period that shouldn’t exceed 24 years and 11 months.

Launched on May 25, 2023, the authority will accept bids till August 20, 2023. Tender details are available on the authority’s website.  

The authority is set to come out with additional tenders to expand the supply of land in the field of renewable energy, including for agrivoltaic facilities, announced the government.

A year back in May 2022, the Ministry of Energy in Israel released an operative plan for renewable energy generation to grow to 30% of the national electricity mix by 2030, which would target solar contributing 17.145 GW, up from 3.59 GW at the end of 2021 (see Israel Eying 17GW+ Installed Solar By 2030).
