PASH Global & ERIH Holdings JV to build 100 MW solar and storage in Paraguay; Solarpack signs 20-year PPA for Ecuador’s largest solar plant; Enel Green Power Chile constructing 99 MW solar and storage project; Dominican Republic to equip over 300 schools with solar panels.
100 MW solar and storage in Paraguay: UK based clean energy impact investor PASH Global along with Turkey’s ERIH Holdings will jointly develop 100 MW cumulative solar PV and energy storage capacity in Paraguay. Their 50:50 joint venture aims to bring online the 1st project in 2024, and will be followed by remaining capacity by 2025.
Solarpack’s El Aromo Solar Project in Ecuador: Spain’s Solarpack has secured a formal 20-year contract with the Ecuadorian government for the construction and concession of the 258 MW DC/200 MW AC El Aromo Solar PV Project. Calling it the largest solar project in Ecuador, Solarpack said it will build the project in the coastal province of Manabi on 300-hectare space in a landfill area used for construction waste. It will be built for an investment of around €141 million. It won the project in December 2020 following a competitive solicitation drive for its competitive offer of $69.35/MWh (see Spanish Companies Win 310 MW Ecuador RE Auction).
99 MW solar park under construction in Chile: Enel Green Power Chile has broken ground on the 99 MW El Manzano Solar Park with battery storage component in Chile’s Tiltil town as the company’s 1st large-scale PV project in the Metropolitan Region. It is part of the company’s new strategy to install projects closer to its centers of consumption. It will be equipped with 162,000 bifacial monocrystalline solar panels of 615W and 610W. Spread on 185-hectare land, it will generate close to 226 GWh clean energy annually which will be fed into the grid on completion. Enel Chile’s subsidiary aims to add 1.9 GW renewable energy capacity to Chile’s national grid under its 2023-2025 strategic development plan. In February 2023, Enel Chile was authorized by the country’s National Electricity Coordinator to start commercial operations for its 204 MW Domeyko Solar PV Plant (see 204 MW Chile Solar Farm Cleared For Commercial Operations).
Solar panels for schools in Dominican Republic: Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the Ministry of Education will get solar panels installed for more than 300 schools in the country that do not have access to electricity. The aim is to promote the use of renewable energy in schools and ensure education of students is not interrupted due to lack of electricity. Solar panel installations will be carried out through the Directorate of Urban and Suburban Electrification (DERS). According to the country’s Energy Minister Antonio Almonte, “When you calculate what you are going to save, you see that you can repay any loan. Whoever spends RD$5,000 on electricity now, with the installation of panels, can end up paying RD$100.” Almonte said this plan to equip schools with solar panels is part of the government’s overarching target to have the country’s 25% of energy consumption by 2025 to be satiated by renewable energy.
