  • CarbonFree has acquired 4 operational solar projects in Chile from JREL solar, representing 45 MW DC capacity, all under PMGD program
  • Sonnedix has issued NTP to start construction on a 10.5 MW solar power project in Chile
  • Recap has commissioned a 22.25 kW solar power system for Brazilian high-end store Multi Open Shopping

45 MW DC solar changes hands in Chile: CarbonFree Chile SpA has acquired 4 operational solar projects in Chile with a combined capacity of 45 MW DC, contracted to sell power to the Chilean grid. All projects are located in the Atacama region and fall under the country’s Pequeños Medios de Generación Distribuida program (Program for Distributed Generation) or PMGD. It has acquired the 4 projects from JREL Solar SpA that deployed Yingli Solar’s PV modules each with 325W output, single axis trackers by Soltec Energias Renovables and 1500V inverters from Ingeteam Corporacion. The 4 facilities will be operated and maintained by NovaSource Power Services. These projects add to the company’s existing PMGD solar portfolio, taking it to 36 projects representing 246 MW DC capacity. It has an additional PMGD solar capacity of around 100 MW, all of which are scheduled to enter construction over the next 12 months.

Sonnedix to build 10.5 MW project in Chile: On May 12, 2021 Sonnedix said it has issued notice to proceed (NTP) for a 10.5 MW solar power plant in Chile’s Valparaiso region. For the 10.5 MW Sonnedix Taranto Solar PV Plant, CAF Turnkey & Engineering has been appointed as the EPC contractor that plans to complete the project in early 2022. On completion, it is expected to generate 21,648 MWh of clean energy during year 1 of its operation. Currently, the company has 15 operational solar power plants in Chile with a controlled capacity of more than 400 MW, and over 700 MW in the pipeline. Recently, it commissioned a 6 MW solar project in Chile (see Latin America PV Snippets: Greener, EGP, Sonnedix).

Brazilian shopping center wants more solar: Multi Open Shopping center, a high end store in Brazil’s Florianópolis in Brazil has expanded its current solar power system contract with Sweden’s Renewable Energy Capital or ReCap Group for 22.25 kW installation. It will be in addition to the existing contract for 25.25 kW system already installed. In the 2nd phase, Recap cooperated with Elekt Solar Innovations to install the project using WEG/Huawei inverters. The 2nd phase has become operational since May 2021.
