The Sultan of Malaysia's Johor State Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has announced a 450 MW solar power plant to be built here calling it the 'biggest of its kind' in Southeast Asia. It will also be the region's largest solar energy storage system when fully commissioned by 2023, he added in the announcement on his social media account.

The project will mark the state's major foray into large scale sustainable energy to promote green economy.

To be built for RM 1.4 billion ($345 million), the project will be called Sultan Ibrahim Solar Park and located in Pengerang municipal area of Kota Tinggi district of Johor. He also shared March 23, 2021 as the date for groundbreaking ceremony of the project.

The project is described as the state's 1st major private investment project for 2021, as a result of the ruler's 'continued efforts to woo investors to spur Johor's economic growth for the benefit of the people', stated the Royal Press Office (RPO).

The release said the project is aligned with the state's 2030 Johor Sustainable Development Plan or PPMJ 2030, launched by the Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in December 2020 focusing on 8 thrust areas to grow Johor's economy over the next 10 years.
