Bundesnetzagentur has awarded 259 MW solar PV capacity under its 2nd round for rooftop solar projects
It comprises 119 winning bids for projects within the range of 1 MW to 20 MW capacity
Out of the 3 auction rounds for this category scheduled this year, the 3rd is to be held on October 1, 2024
Germany’s rooftop solar auction for PV systems on buildings and noise barriers dated June 1, 2024, for a tendered volume of 258 MW, was oversubscribed by 1.4 times. The Bundesnetzagentur, or the Federal Network Agency, attracted 162 bids for a combined 363 MW.
It finally selected 119 winning bids, representing a volume of 259 MW in its latest rooftop solar auction. Bundesnetzagentur President Klaus Müller said strong competition also led to low bids for this round that admitted projects with an installed capacity of a minimum of 1 MW and a maximum of 20 MW.
Of these, 78 winning contracts were for a bid volume of up to 2 MW. The largest bid had a volume of 10 MW.
Winning bids ranged from €0.0795/kWh to €0.1019 ($0.086 to $0.11)/kWh. Against the ceiling tariff of €0.105/kWh, the weighted average winning bid was determined as €0.0894 ($0.097)/kWh. In the previous round in March 2024, the weighted average winning bid was €0.0892/kWh.
Most of the winning projects were awarded in North Rhine-Westphalia for a total of 83 MW. The remaining capacity was distributed as 31 MW in Lower Saxony, 23 MW in Bavaria, and 32 MW in Baden-Württemberg.
The agency targets to auction 900 MW PV capacity under this category in 2024, divided equally into 3 annual bidding dates. With 264 MW awarded under the 1st round in March 2024 and 259 MW awarded in the 2nd round, it looks like the 3rd round will be a bigger one. The next bidding round for this category is scheduled for October 1, 2024.
