2.9 GW New Solar Installed In Netherlands In 2020

Netherlands Exceeds 10 GW Cumulative Installed Solar PV Capacity Milestone With 2.9 GW Added In 2020, Says Dutch New Energy Research

2.9 GW New Solar Installed In Netherlands In 2020

According to DNE Research’s 2021 Nationaal Solar Trendrapport, the Netherlands installed 2.933 GW solar power capacity in 2020 growing its annual installations by 14% and making 2020 the best year ever for solar in the country so far.

  • DNE Research says the Netherlands grew its 2020 solar PV installations by 14% annually to 2.933 GW
  • It was divided between 1.095 GW from residential sector and 1.838 GW from commercial sector
  • According to the report, close to 11 GW capacity under SDE+ subsidy scheme is under development while 5 GW has been brought online

The Netherlands installed 2.933 GW of new solar PV capacity during 2020 making it the year with the highest amount of solar power capacity added during a single year since 2010, according to the latest report from Dutch New Energy Research (DNE Research). It was 14% more than 2019 additions of 2.568 GW.

This is slightly higher than the 2.8 GW capacity SolarPower Europe’s EU Market Outlook for Solar Power 2020-2024 estimated for the country which released in the mid of December 2020 (see SolarPower Europe Says EU Added 18.7 GW Solar In 2020). According to SPE, Holland was the second largest solar market after Germany in 2020.

The 2021 Nationaal Solar Trendrapport by DNE Research says residential installations in 2020 came to a total of 1.095 GW crossing the 1 GW level for the 1st time and growing from 873 MW in 2019. Over the same duration, the commercial segment—that suffered from some project delays in 2020 due to COVID-19 related measures in place—deployed 1.838 GW in 2020, which still means slight growth over 2019 installations of 1.696 GW.

The analysts believe 5 GW of SDE+subsidy projects are now grid connected while close to 11 GW of solar power capacity awarded under the scheme are still under development.

DNE Research estimates the 2020 additions of 2.9 GW pushed up the country’s overall installed solar PV capacity to 10.11 GW, 41% more than total installed capacity of 7.177 GW till 2019.
