60 MW Solar Tender Coming Up In North Macedonia

• North Macedonia to launch an auction for 60 MW solar power capacity in the country
• It is likely to be announced within Q1/2021, and the government expects this capacity to attract an investment of €35 million
• Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said his government has also approved grant funds for feasibility studies of 3 new solar PV plants with a total capacity of 160 MW in REK Bitola

The Federal Government of North Macedonia is set to invite bids for 60 MW solar power capacity as early as Q1/2021. The country's Prime Minister Zoran Zaev shared this information in an interview with the news magazine Capital whose excerpts he shared on the government's website.

Zaev expects the new auction to bring in €35 million ($42 million) in fresh investments to the state. The Prime Minister further added that 160 MW solar is already planned to come up in the country in the form of a 10 MW under construction project at a former coal mine in REK Oslomej along with 2 projects with 50 MW capacity each more to be built. These 3 facilities are likely to take an investment of €60 million.

In February 2020, the North Macedonian government issued a tender for 2 solar power projects with 100 MW capacity to be established in the Oslomej region, a step applauded by the European Union (EU) (see North Macedonia To Build 100 MW Solar On Coal Mine Site).

According to the Prime Minister, grant funds for feasibility studies of 3 new solar PV power plants with a total capacity of 160 MW in REK Bitola have been approved.

In 2020, the Ministry of Economy approved 21 MW of solar power capacity on private land by entering into contracts with 23 investors (see North Macedonia Gives Go Ahead To 21 MW Solar).
