ACCIONA Energía has announced a 189 MW solar power plant in Croatia
It has secured a 12-year CfD for the project from national market operator HROTE
The facility is currently under development and scheduled to be grid-connected in 2027
Spanish energy group ACCIONA Energía has secured a 12-year Contract for Difference (CfD) contract for a 189 MW solar power plant that it claims will be the largest PV project in Croatia on commissioning in 2027. It will also build a new 400 kV interconnection substation to transfer electricity generated into the national grid.
The Promina project is currently under development in the Sibenik-Knin county in the southern part of the country. To be equipped with more than 300,000 solar modules, it is expected to generate 320 GWh annually once online.
Croatian market operator Hrvatski Operator Trzista Energije (HROTE) assigned the CfD to ACCIONA through a competitive tender. The CfD scheme, says ACCIONA, is part of the country’s support scheme approved by the European Commission to boost Croatia’s renewable electricity production.
In June 2024, HROTE launched a renewable energy call for 607 MW, allocating 450 MW to solar PV technology with the remaining allocated to wind and hydroelectric power plants. While the auction was oversubscribed, it allocated a total of a little over 400 MW.
