  • AMEA Power has announced winning 72 MW of solar power capacity in an auction conducted by Morocco
  • This capacity will be realized by the company as 2 projects of 36 MW each, in Taroudant and El Hajeb
  • The projects are part of Noor PV II solar energy program of the Moroccan government

UAE based thermal and renewable energy projects developer and operator AMEA Power says it has won a total of 72 MW solar power capacity in an international bidding process concluded in Morocco.

It will develop this capacity in the form of 2 projects of 36 MW each in Taroudant of Souss-Massa region and in El Hajeb of Fès-Meknès region, reported Emirates News Agency (WAM).

AMEA has won this capacity in a 400 MW solar tender launched by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen) in early 2020 under phase I of the Noor PV II program. It aims for this capacity to be realized in 9 locations, including the above 2  (see 400 MW Solar PV Tender Launched In Morocco).

According to WAM report, power generated by the multi-site solar energy program Noor PV II will be supplied to large industrial set ups at competitive rates.

There is no official word as yet from Masen or the federal Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development on the auction results.

Morocco aims to achieve the share of renewable energies in its total installed electricity mix to over 52% in 2030, up from 37% at the end of 2021 in the form of 3.95 GW. Solar energy's share to the renewable energy mix was 750 MW.
