  • RAE has received interest from 128 projects offering to build 1.092 GW of solar and wind power capacity
  • It is in response to the 350 MW renewable energy tender which will be held on May 24, 2021
  • RAE is expecting the massive interest to bring down electricity prices for renewables
  • It has also received an project license application for 500 MW PV capacity from Service Digital Photovoltaics

The Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) in Greece has confirmed massive oversubscription for its 350 MW solar and wind power tender for which it was accepting bids till March 22, 2021 (see Greece Announces 350 MW Wind & Solar PV Tender).

A total of 128 projects have offered to build 1.092 GW renewable energy capacity, however it did not specify how much has been offered for solar PV and wind energy technologies. Solar PV projects with an installed capacity of up to 20 MW and wind projects with up to 50 MW capacity were to be accepted for this tender round.

RAE said this tender on completion will not only lead to the implementation of the 350 MW renewable energy generation capacity, but the high level of competition will also enable electricity price reduction.

The online auction will be held on May 24, 2021 when the final winners will be announced.

In a separate announcement, RAE said it has received license application from a company called Service Digital Photovoltaics for the development, construction and maintenance of 500 MW solar PV capacity in Greece. The license will be valid for 20 years, and can be extended thereafter. It will be accepting applications objecting the license till April 15, 2021.

Earlier RAE had received 1,864 applications from companies seeking project licenses for 45.55 GW renewables, with 79.8% for solar PV technology under the 1st electronic application round for renewable energy projects in December 2020 (see PPC Renewables Picks METKA EGN For 200 MW Project).
