Brazil’s Cumulative Solar Capacity Reaches 10 GW

The Brazilian solar PV association ABSOLAR has announced the country having surpassed the milestone of 10 GW operational solar power capacity. This comprises both utility scale as well as small scale projects, the association announced on its social media handle.

Till July 2021, ABSOLAR had said the aggregate had reached 9.738 GW, comprising 6.31 GW of utility scale and 3.427 GW of small scale PV. Brazil had installed 7.785 GW installed by the end of 2020. That means in the initial 8 months of 2021, Brazil has already installed roughly around 2 GW of new capacity.

On July 11, 2020, ABSOLAR said Brazil’s cumulative installed solar PV Capacity had grown over 6 GW (see Cumulative PV Capacity Of Brazil Now Over 6 GW).

The interest in solar among investors in Brazil isn’t anywhere close to fading for a slew of auctions are planned by the country, including A-5 New Energy Auction on September 30, 2021. CEMIG has registered around 4.8 GW solar and wind power capacity for special incentive electricity purchase auction on August 24, 2021 (see 4.8 GW S&W Registered For Brazil Auction).
