JA Solar at TaiyangNews Virtual Conference on May 28-29; Huasun's 0BB HJT cells hit 26.5% efficiency; GCL Si to launch GPC cell products in Q4 2024; Leascend's 3 GW HJT cell fab nears approval; Yunnan Seraphim rolls out 1st module; China's PV capacity to reach 3.5 TW by 2060.

Huasun's 0BB HJT cells hit 26.5% maximum efficiency in mass production: Heterojunction (HJT) solar PV manufacturer Huasun has announced that its 0BB HJT cells have achieved an average efficiency of 26.15% in mass production and a maximum efficiency of 26.5%. Huasun attributes this improvement to its advanced texturing process, the latest HJT 3.0 bifacial microcrystalline process, and high-efficiency, low-cost target materials. The company also highlighted the deep application of cutting-edge 0BB module technology and low-silver-content silver-coated copper paste.

Last month, Huasun Energy held the Huasun HJT Exclusive Gala in Abu Dhabi where it showcased its solar technology (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

GCL Si expects to launch GPC cell products in Q4 2024: GCL Si has announced that it plans to launch the GPC (graphical precise-doping passivation contact) cell that it is developing in Q4 of 2024. The company says that the GPC cell belongs to a new generation of BC (back contact) products. It uses a new passivation contact solution and an ultra-low metallization solution, with unit consumption potential as low as 30 mg. The company says this makes the BC cell process easy to control, with higher efficiency and lower cost.

Earlier this month, GCL Technology released its Q1 2024 unaudited results and a business update for its PV materials business segment (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Leascend's 3 GW HJT cell fab nears approval: The People's Government of Tongzhou District, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, has announced its intention to approve Leascend's 3 GW HJT solar cell manufacturing facility. According to the announcement, Leascend plans to invest RMB 2 billion ($278 million) in acquiring 400 acres of new land for the factory. The planned scale of 12 GW is to be implemented in 3 phases, with the current approval covering Phase I for 3 GW.

Last month, Huasun Energy signed an agreement with Leascend for the purchase of 1 GW of high-efficiency HJT cells (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Yunnan Seraphim rolls out 1st module: Yunnan Seraphim has announced that it has rolled out the 1st module from its production line. Seraphim is reported to have invested RMB 300 million ($41.46 million) in this 1 GW module manufacturing facility. Having started construction in February of this year, the factory uses high-efficiency monocrystalline TOPCon technology and consists of 1 high-efficiency module production line and auxiliary production equipment. Once fully up and running, it is expected to generate RMB 900 million ($124.4 million) in annual revenues, providing 200 jobs at the site.

China's PV installed capacity to reach 3.5 TW by 2060: The Development Research Centre of the State Council and Shell have released their joint research named Future-Oriented and Growth-Assisting: Building China's New Energy System. Providing a comprehensive analysis of the future blueprint for China's energy development, it offers vision and policy recommendations for a new energy system by 2060. It forecasts that China's electrification rate will increase from around 26% in 2023 to about 60% by 2060. New energy power generation will become the main source of electricity, with the installed capacities of wind power and PV expected to reach 3.2 TW and 3.5 TW respectively, which are 11.3 and 13.8 times their 2020 capacities.
