JinkoSolar launches Qingmiao Award for educational excellence: Solar module manufacturer JinkoSolar has launched the RMB 10 million Qingmiao Award at Yuhuan High School to recognize outstanding teachers and students. The award aims to promote educational development in Yuhuan. The initiative was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by notable figures including Mrs. Li, wife of JinkoSolar Chairman Li Xiande, and JinkoSolar Vice President Dany Qian. The Qingmiao Charity Foundation, established by Chairman Li, funds the scholarship to reward academic and teaching excellence. JinkoSolar says that this award emphasizes its commitment to education and social responsibility.

Recently, JinkoSolar announced that it has achieved the 100 GW shipment milestone for its n-type Tiger Neo modules (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Cybrid forecasts H1 2024 net loss of up to RMB 22 million: As part of its H1 2024 performance forecast, Cybrid Technologies has announced that it expects to achieve a net loss of RMB 15 million to RMB 22 million ($2.066 million to $3.031 million) for the first half of 2024. This compares to a profit of RMB 50.3586 million ($6.938 million) for the same period in 2023. The company said that its photovoltaic (PV) materials business struggled due to increased production capacity in the industry, intense competition and weak demand. It said further that its backsheet business saw declines in both volume and prices compared to H1 2023. While its PV films business maintained sales volumes, it experienced continued declines in sales price from H1 2023. Cybrid says it is now focusing its efforts on overseas production and market development, and is hopeful of a turnaround through improved operational efficiencies.

JA Solar wins EUPD Top Brand PV award in 5 continents: Vertically integrated PV manufacturer JA Solar was recently named the Top Brand Photovoltaic in Europe for 2024 by EUPD Research. The company also won this honor in 9 European countries including Austria, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Sweden. JA Solar says it has now won this award across 5 continents in 2024, including the Middle East, North Africa, Africa, Latin America, India and Pakistan, Southeast Asia, and Australia. JA Solar further said that this achievement demonstrates its brand influence and user satisfaction globally.

JA Solar has also been named the Highest Achiever in RETC’s 2024 PV Module Index for the 5th consecutive year (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

CNPC TGRI develops single-junction perovskite solar cell with over 26.2% conversion efficiency: China National Petroleum Corporation Tubular Goods Research Institute (CNPC TGRI) announced last week that its independently developed 1.50 eV single-junction perovskite solar cell has achieved a third party certified conversion efficiency of over 26.2%. CNPC TGRI says this achievement has surpassed the US NREL’s record for a similar cell.

World’s 1st BC solar plant with LONGi modules exceeds expected output: Solar PV manufacturer LONGi has reported that a large-scale solar plant in Guamo, Tolima, Colombia, with solar modules supplied LONGi, has achieved higher-than-expected power output. The plant consists of more than 40,000 BC series high-efficiency modules from LONGi and is the 1st large-scale solar plant globally to use BC modules exclusively. During the February to March 2024 period, the plant produced 6,841.3 MWh of electricity, exceeding its designed output capacity of 6,278 MWh by 563.3 MWh. With Colombia’s current electricity price of $70/MWh, this excess generation has yielded approximately $39,000 in additional revenue, averaging $657 daily. The project is owned by EPM, Colombia’s largest energy group, which operates energy-related businesses in several countries.

Sineng Electric ranks 4th in S&P Global rankings: In the recently released S&P Global Commodity Insights global photovoltaic inverter shipment rankings for 2023, Sineng Electric was ranked 4th globally. Sineng said that this achievement comes on the back of its excellent shipment performance, which has helped it rank among the top 10 for 11 consecutive years. Sineng Electric was also ranked 3rd in global 3-phase inverter shipments, 3rd in global ground station PV inverter shipments, and 10th in global commercial and industrial PV inverter shipments.

Ojing expects to report RMB 120-133M loss for H1 2024: Quartz crucible manufacturer Ojing expects to report a net loss of RMB 120 million to RMB 133 million ($16.51 million to $18.30 million) for H1 2024. This compares to a profit of RMB 407.83 million ($56.12 million) it reported for the same period in 2023. The company cited overcapacity and heightened competition as the reasons behind reporting a loss for the period.
