JinkoSolar's TOPCon Modules deliver higher energy yields in rooftop installations over BC modules

In a comparative study conducted in Laizhou, China, 15 JinkoSolar TOPCon modules and 15 BC modules, each rated at 585 W, were installed on a residential rooftop at a 20° tilt. Over a period of 1 month, the TOPCon modules demonstrated a 1.7% higher energy yield compared to the BC modules. The superior performance of TOPCon modules was attributed to better temperature control and reliability, particularly in the coastal environment with high humidity and salt spray, which adversely affected the BC modules.

A separate year-long study in Jiangxi, China, involved 18 JinkoSolar TOPCon modules and 18 BC modules, both rated at 575 Wp, installed on a factory rooftop. This study showed that the TOPCon modules achieved a 1.95% higher energy yield than the BC modules. The results highlighted TOPCon's efficiency during high-temperature periods and better performance in low-light conditions, such as during the winter months, where a 0.52-0.53% yield gain was observed. This consistent superiority in energy production was linked to TOPCon's advanced design, which better managed temperature variations and reduced energy loss.

LONGi completes 1st vertical installation of all-black solar modules in Japan

LONGi has completed its first vertical installation of 2.58 kW Hi-MO X6 All-Black solar modules in Hokkaido, Japan, known for its heavy snowfall. Traditional rooftop installations in this region face significant power generation losses due to snow accumulation, with up to 90% reduction at optimal angles. LONGi’s vertically installed modules overcome these issues, ensuring better accessibility for maintenance and no snow accumulation. The Hi-MO X6 modules feature HPBC cell technology, enhancing light absorption and power efficiency. This design integrates seamlessly with building facades, merging modern aesthetics with efficient solar energy production, aligning with the global shift towards green energy.

At its investor relations meeting earlier this month, LONGi said that it believes the year 2024 is going to be a difficult year for the company as well as the PV industry (see LONGi: 2024 Difficult Year For Company & Industry).

Yalong River Basin Hydropower announces 5.11 GW n-type solar module tender results

Energy developer Yalong River Basin Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. has announced the winning candidates for its 2024 centralized procurement of solar modules. The successful bidders are JA Solar, Trina Solar, Yingli Solar, JinkoSolar, and LONGi. The procurement includes 5.11 GW of modules, with 1.42 GW of n-type monocrystalline bifacial double-glass modules rated at 580 Wp and above, and 3.69 GW rated at 615 Wp and above. Bid prices range from RMB 0.75/W ($0.103/W) to RMB 0.813/W ($0.112/W), with an average price of RMB 0.778/W ($0.107/W). Yingli Solar submitted the lowest bid at RMB 0.75/W ($0.103/W), while Jinko submitted the highest at RMB 0.813/W ($0.112/W). The delivery period is planned from September 2024 to June 2026.

High-efficiency Heterojunction 740W+ Club calls for scientific and fair testing standards for HJT

At the 4th roundtable meeting of the High-Efficiency Heterojunction 740W+ Club in Shanghai, the members of the club opined that performance evaluation and testing methods for heterojunction technology (HJT) are insufficient. They said that the testing standards for HJT are different among various testing agencies. The members called for devising more scientific, accurate, industry-compliant, and fair testing standards for HJT in order to promote healthy development of the technology.

China supports renewable energy in electrolytic aluminum industry

5 Chinese government departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and National Energy Administration (NEA), have jointly issued a Special Action Plan for Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction in the Electrolytic Aluminum Industry. The plan supports the use of wind, photovoltaic, hydro, and biomass energy in electrolytic aluminum enterprises. It generally prohibits new self-supplied coal-fired power units, while encouraging the replacement of such units with clean energy. It also encourages their participation in the construction of microgrids that primarily consume renewable energy, and exploration of virtual storage and flexible regulation technologies for aluminum electrolysis. It plans for the proportion of clean transport in the electrolytic aluminum industry to reach about 70% by 2025, and 80% in key atmospheric pollution prevention areas.
