JinkoSolar Delivers 123 MWh Liquid Cooling BESS to Yitong New Energy

Leading PV and energy storage supplier JinkoSolar has announced that it has supplied 123 MWh of its SunTera liquid-cooling energy storage systems (ESS) to Yitong New Energy for a solar-plus-storage project in Zhengye, Gansu. The system will support peak shaving and valley filling at the solar park.

JinkoSolar says that SunTera’s liquid cooling technology maintains a temperature difference within 2°C between cells, improving battery consistency, cycle life, and safety. With 8,000–10,000 cycles and 94%+ round-trip efficiency, it is suited for large-scale utilities, airports, and transit systems. The BESS includes 5 layers of safety: fire detection, pressure relief, aerosol suppression, and explosion-proof devices. Jinko says utility-scale projects prefer SunTera for its safety and performance.

Recently, a TÜV Nord study involving JinkoSolar’s TOPCon modules showed they outperform p-type BC module energy yields by up to 6.95% (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Risen’s Hyper-ion modules pass IEC extreme low-temperature load test

Heterojunction (HJT) module manufacturer Risen Energy has announced that its HJT Hyper-ion modules have successfully passed the IEC extreme low-temperature load test. It said that this test, conducted by an independent third party according to the IEC TS 63209-1:2021 standard, adopted a more rigorous testing protocol. During the static mechanical load test, the environment temperature was significantly lowered from the standard 25°C to -40°C. The front and rear sides of the modules withstood pressures of up to 5,400 Pa and 2,400 Pa, respectively (compared to the standard 2,400 Pa for both sides). In the dynamic mechanical load test, the modules endured pressures of 1,000 Pa on both sides, along with 50 thermal cycles and 10 freeze-thaw cycles. Risen said passing these tests demonstrates the high reliability and long-term stable power generation performance of HJT Hyper-ion modules under extremely low temperatures and complex stress conditions.

S.C New Energy expects Q3 2024 adjusted net profit growth of up to 96.17% YoY

As part of its Q3 2024 results forecast, new energy equipment manufacturer S.C. New Energy has announced that it expects Q3 2024 adjusted net profit of RMB 646.63 million ($89.81 million) to RMB 866.70 million (120.10 million). This represents a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 46.36% to 96.17%. For the 9-month period from January to September 2024, it expects its adjusted net profit to range between RMB 1.826 billion ($253.61 million) to RMB 2.046 billion (284.17 million), a YoY increase of 61.65% to 81.13%. The company attributes this substantial profit growth to the continued acceptance and conversion of its backlog of orders into revenue during the reporting period.

China's September large-scale industrial solar cell output up 8.2% YoY

According to the latest data from China's National Bureau of Statistics, large-scale industrial enterprises with annual main business revenue of RMB 20 million ($2.81 million) or more saw a 12.7% YoY increase in solar power generation in September, reaching 32.3 billion kWh. From January to September, total solar power generation for these enterprises reached 307.3 billion kWh, reflecting a 27% YoY growth. The report also revealed that solar cell production by large-scale industrial enterprises reached 63.85 GW in September, an 8.2% YoY increase. For the first 3 quarters of 2024, total solar cell production amounted to 478.09 GW, growing 12.8% YoY.

Ministry of Ecology and Environment seeks public input on environmental protection for onshore wind and solar projects

China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment has issued a draft notice for public comment on strengthening ecological protection in onshore wind and solar power construction projects. The draft covers multiple aspects including project planning, classification management, tiered approval processes, and government oversight to ensure environmental protection throughout the lifecycle of these projects. Key provisions include:

  • Onshore wind and solar projects with an installed capacity of 200 MW or more, or those located in environmentally sensitive areas, must prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report. Other solar power projects should submit a registration form or a simplified EIA report.

  • Projects with an installed capacity of 500 MW or more are recommended for approval by provincial-level environmental departments, while new projects of 2 GW or more should be approved by the Ministry.

  • During the EIA approval process, authorities are to focus on the project's environmental sustainability, ecological friendliness, and recyclability.

Waste materials from decommissioned wind and solar facilities, including components and storage systems, should follow principles of reduction, resource recovery, and harmless disposal. Power generation companies are responsible for proper disposal of retired equipment, and efforts should be made to establish a comprehensive recycling industry for wind and solar equipment.
