Mingyang Thin Film Technology, the thin-film solar manufacturing subsidiary of wind power developer Mingyang, has delivered a building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) project in Chengdu, Sichuan province. Located in Wuhou district, the project uses over 1,400 custom-sized photovoltaic glass panels installed as vertical decorative fins on the façade of a commercial complex. The electricity generated will be consumed on site within the building, helping reduce the complex’s operating power costs.
BYD Energy Storage has launched its GW-scale grid-forming energy storage solution 2.0, which is built around a standardized GC Block with capacity of up to 62 MWh. The solution integrates the next-generation MC Cube-XT battery energy storage system and GC Flux PCS 2.0, according to the company.
MC Cube-XT uses 1,980 Ah energy-storage Blade Batteries designed for systems with durations of two hours or longer. GC Flux PCS 2.0 offers up to 10 MW in a standard 20-foot container, with peak conversion efficiency of 99.50% and three-times overload capability for 10 seconds.
The company said the system can support grid-forming operation at ultra-large-scale energy storage plants and provide short-duration support under extreme overload conditions without disconnecting from the grid. The company also added that the solution can provide minute-level black-start capability for GW-scale energy storage plants, helping renewables assume baseload power-supply functions in the grid with more stability.
Jinko Power has grid-connected a renewable energy microgrid at a data center owned by Tencent - one of the biggest internet companies in China. The project includes an 8.211 MW distributed solar system and a solar-storage-charging carport with eight parking spaces, with annual solar generation estimated at about 10.09 GWh. Jinko says the system is connected to the site's distribution network at 10 kV. It is supported by an intelligent microgrid management platform integrating solar generation, battery charging and discharging, load dispatch and virtual power plant (VPP) response.
The platform can optimize battery charging and discharging strategies based on real-time electricity prices and participate in grid demand-response programs. The project also uses automated cleaning robots and inspection drones. Jinko Power previously put into operation a 10.54 MW data center microgrid for Tencent in Tianjin and a wind-solar-storage integrated microgrid project at Tencent's Huailai Dongyuan Data Center.
Longyuan Power announced that its 11 GW Badain Jaran Desert renewable energy project in Gansu has received internal project approval from its parent company, CHN Energy. Located across Jinta County in Zhangye, the project is part of China’s large-scale wind and solar development program in desert, Gobi and arid regions. It will also serve as a supporting power source for the Gansu-to-Sichuan ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project. The base is planned with 4.3 GW of wind and 6.7 GW of solar capacity, together with a certain amount of energy storage. According to a pre-feasibility study plan disclosed by the company in 2025, the broader energy base is also planned to include 4 GW of coal-fired peaking capacity, 1.4 GW/5.6 GWh of electrochemical energy storage, and 200 MW of concentrating solar power.
Several CHINT Group companies are involved in the construction of a 400 MW agrivoltaic project in Luqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province. Located at an altitude of about 3,500 meters, the grid connection is expected by June next year. CHINT Green Energy is serving as the EPC contractor. The project will use Astronergy’s ASTRO N n-type TOPCon modules and CHINT Power’s 300 kW and 320 kW string inverters, with a jointly developed 330 kV step-up substation. The project combines PV generation with pasture cultivation, and livestock farming beneath and between the module arrays. Once completed, it is expected to generate about 646 million kWh annually and more than 16.1 billion kWh over its lifetime.
