Ecoprogetti has installed a new production line for TOPCon solar modules in Iraq
The project combines manufacturing equipment with technology transfer and workforce training to support local production, it says

Italy-based solar PV equipment provider Ecoprogetti has commissioned a new module manufacturing line with a capacity exceeding 200 MW at the Al-Nour Solar Panel Production Plant in Karbala, calling it Iraq's first fully automated PV production line.
Ecoprogetti says it developed the turnkey facility for the Project Engineering Department of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, an Iraqi institution involved in development, educational, and industrial initiatives.
It supplied and installed the complete production line, which has an initial annual manufacturing capacity of more than 200 MW. The automated production line is designed to manufacture M10 144-cell TOPCon half-cut solar modules and can produce around 800 modules per day, according to the Italian company.
Under a planned phase II, the target is to expand the plant's annual capacity to 600 MW. In addition to providing manufacturing equipment, Ecoprogetti supported the project with technology transfer, production planning, and process optimization.
The facility is expected to strengthen Iraq's local manufacturing capabilities and reduce its dependence on imported solar modules, while providing technical training opportunities for Iraqi engineers and technicians.
According to the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, the Al-Nour Solar Panel Production Plant is one of its strategic projects aimed at localizing renewable energy technologies and supporting demand for solar products in the domestic market.
Iraq's electricity system depends largely on oil and gas, but it faces power shortages, grid inefficiencies, and transmission losses owing to growing electricity demand and an aging grid. To diversify its energy mix, the country aims to raise the share of renewable energy to 6% by 2030, backed by plans for 12 GW of solar capacity.
The Ecoprogetti project comes as Iraq seeks to develop a domestic solar manufacturing industry. According to Iraq's Ministry of Industry and Minerals, cited by Al Arabiya, the government plans to partner with international companies to produce solar panels locally and strengthen the country's renewable energy supply chain.
