Key Takeaways
  • EliTe Solar’s solar PV manufacturing complex in Egypt has come online with 2 GW of solar cell and 3 GW of solar module capacity

  • These projects represent combined investments of about $116 million and are located in Egypt’s SCZone

  • Together, the facilities have created around 860 direct jobs and 170 indirect jobs

EliTe Solar, a Singapore-headquartered solar PV manufacturer, has formally commissioned a 5 GW integrated manufacturing complex in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). The facility, known as the EliTe Solar Suez Technology Factory Complex, was inaugurated by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

Spanning 41,835 m², the complex hosts an annual production capacity of 2 GW of solar cells and electronic boards. It creates about 400 direct and 40 indirect jobs. Another facility, the EliTe Solar Green Energy Project, has 3 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity and is built on a 35,479 m² area. This project has created about 460 direct and 130 indirect jobs, according to SCZone.

Both the cell and module manufacturing projects represent investments of up to $40 million and $76 million, respectively.

EliTe Solar broke ground on these projects in December 2024 with an initial target to bring these online in September 2025. The company had earlier announced plans for over 8 GW manufacturing capacity in Egypt, starting with a 2 GW cell plant (see Middle East & Africa Solar PV News Snippets).

The manufacturer was constructing a 2.7 GW solar wafer production facility in Vietnam, in which OCI Holdings’ OCI TerraSus acquired a 65% stake with plans to expand its annual capacity to 5.4 GW (see OCI Holdings Invests In 2.7 GW Vietnam Solar Wafer Plant).

Egypt is emerging as a solar PV manufacturing hub for the Middle East and Africa region, with several announced projects located in SCZone. Recently, JA Solar, AH Industrial Management, GSU, and Infinity Capital launched the construction of a 2 GW cell, 2 GW module, and 1 GWh ESS production complex in SCZone. China's Sungrow has also signed an agreement to develop a 10 GWh BESS manufacturing plant in SCZone (see Egypt Announces $1.8 Billion Solar & Battery Projects).
